Backpacker Found an Abandoned Native American City

December 1, 2023

Luke from the outdoor Boys YouTube channel is camping in a snowstorm in Southern Utah while searching for ancient Native American cities. He embarks on an 11.5-mile hike through canyons to explore untouched archaeological sites of the Anasazi Indians. Luke explains how the Anasazis would build their homes under cliffs using flat stones and mud, and how they preserved their surplus food in granaries.

Luke finds shards of pottery and pieces of chert or flint, which he believes the Anasazis used for arrowheads and spearheads. He also comes across a wash or a dried-up river that can turn into raging rapids if it rains, making it dangerous for hikers. Along the way, Luke encounters pack rat nests and animal footprints.

He stops to take in the stunning views and discovers a small structure built with dried mud. Despite the challenging terrain and snowy weather, Luke is excited to explore more sites and cover a lot of ground. Enjoy!
