A scorching June sun beats down on a group of excited men near a village in the Southeast Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. They’re watching a backhoe as its metal teeth claw away at a sand dune. But as the hours pass, the search yields nothing. Dispirited, the men are on the point of giving up. Suddenly, though, it’s all worth it: something truly remarkable appears.
