The 48-year-old was arrested in the Greek town of Kavala while investigating an archaeological site using a metal detector and a digging tool, while two copper coins were found in his possession
The police officers of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Directorate of Security of Thessaloniki proceeded to arrest a 48-year-old Greek antiquarian and a case was filed against him for violation of the Legislation regarding the "Sanction of the Code of Legislation for the Protection of Antiquities"
Specifically, during an organized police operation that took place in the afternoon of 22-12-2022 at the archaeological site of Philippi in Kavala, the 48-year-old was caught investigating the ground using a metal detector and a digging tool, while two copper coins were found in his possession, which according to the opinion of an archaeologist of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Serres are subject to the protective provisions of the above law, as well as three undiagnosed objects that need further investigation.
In a search carried out at the house of the arrested person in the area of Drama, objects were confiscated, which according to the opinion of an archaeologist of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Drama, fall under the protective provisions of the above Legislation.
Specifically, the following were confiscated:
-195 coins
-10 other objects (silver, copper and iron).
The arrested person will be taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Kavala.
