Ancient citadel discovered in Uzbekistan

A joint Uzbek-Italian archaeological expedition discovered the ruins of an ancient defensive structure in Pastdargom district of Samarkand region in Uzbekistan, the Tourist and information website of Samarkand reported.

The finding dates back to the III-II centuries BC. Fragments of a defensive object were discovered during excavations at the Kui Tepa kurgan (burial) in Dustlik mahalla.

The researchers found fragments of the fortress wall, a huge ceramic vessel, pottery, small sculptures, seals. Experts suggested a theory that this object once served as one of the outposts of defense.
