70 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous, a truly remarkable behemoth was flapping its flippers. It was the largest turtle to ever do so and was thriving during a time when the prehistoric waters of the Earth were teaming with giant marine predators, this was the Archelon. It was a 3 ton prehistoric sea turtle that was highly unique, even amongst all the marine life of the Late Cretaceous. It was featured in Sea Monsters, and more recently Prehistoric Planet, helping shed some light on this severely underrated turtle that was literally the ‘Ruler of Turtles’.
