This is a map of Scandinavia, the sub-region in Northern Europe, with strong historical, cultural and linguistic ties between its constituent peoples. From 793 to 1066 AD, the Viking Age brought prominence to the area. Scandinavian peoples engaged in extensive raiding, conquest, colonization and trade throughout Europe during this time. As the first Europeans to enter North America, they also used their longships for exploration. Archaeologists are still finding special finds from that time. Here are some of the Viking discoveries.
